My experience with Bank of America(BOA) has been awful. As far as I can tell they do not care for their customers nor do they trust them. Let me give you a little background story first. Heres me, little southern boy coming to The Big Apple to intern for the summer. When I arrive I notice there are almost no Wachovia or Wells Fargo banks so how am I supposed to deposit my paychecks or get money out to spend on the town? Enter Bank of America. These ATM’s are on just about every block it feels like. No question; only one thing to do: Open a BOA account. So I go to the closest branch from my office with first paycheck in hand. After waiting a mere 30 minutes, actually not too bad considering it can take at least 45 to get into clubs here, I get all set up with a shinny new bank account. They even give me a temporary ATM card to use until my Dallas Cowboys card arrives. I’m told two things before I leave: 1. The card should arrive in a couple of days, it was a Friday so by Wednesday I should have card in hand. 2. My first check will be put on a 7 day hold. I’m OK with both of these things as they seem like SOP to me. (Thats Standard Operating Procedures for any civilians out there.)
Well last friday I got my second paycheck. I deposited it on Saturday as Friday night… well I don’t remember what I did but it was a good time. When I check my balance today it appears the check has been put in a hold. WHAT?! So I call the bank and after going through their seemingly endless voice automated system I find out “new customer’s” checks can be held for up to 10 days, business days. Then the nice lady on the phone, while trying to comfort me says ” dont worry even if your a customer of 5 years your checks still might be put into this holding pattern so it’s not just you.” Right like thats what I was worried about. Who comes up with these business plans? Yeah let me just hold someone’s money for a week just in case they are a bad person. Why would you even let me open an account if you thought I might be a bad person? So as of now I want nothing to do with Bank of America and as soon as the hold is removed you bet I’ll be closing my accounts.
Oh also, it is more than two weeks later and I have yet to receive my debit card.
