My mom, Lee, just purchased a new lake house in the lovely town where my family has vacationed for the past 5 generations, Eagles Mere, PA. One of the local traditions is giving your house a name. Everyone proudly displays their house’s name on a sign outside their house, the name is in the tiny local phone-book (the town has a year round population of about 100), and people have even been known to say things such as “I stay at Self-Help Lodge”. Self-Help Lodge being the name of my grandmother’s house as she always believed if you were invited over more than once you were no longer a guest but had become family and could help yourself to what ever you might find. Another house name is “Where The Sidewalk Ends” because, well, their property starts where the sidewalk ends. The names are often silly or inside family jokes but most importantly just a fun local tradition.
So what did my mom name her new house? I was completely swoon when she told me.
Mere-Lee!
